Doctober: A Classic Challenge

It’s all exciting times for those in the know of the Whoniverse with the second half of Series 6/Season 32 kicking off last week. Now we know that the 1st October is the finale of the current season, but the question remains, what to do with the time we have until the next series returns?

I have the answer, in the form of DOCTOBER.

What is Doctober? It’s a challenge a bit like BEDA (Blog Every Day (in April), VEDA (Vlog Every Day (in) August), etc. But the only task required is to watch Doctor Who each day, more specifically CLASSIC DOCTOR WHO. Now I’m a person who knew of Doctor Who from the age of five, but I never truly got into the show until it was revived, much like the majority of the fans today. I have been making time to watch the older episodes as best possible, but this is something other fans don’t do, and I truly don’t know why. This is now the time to rectify that in October!

Here is the setup for how this challenge will work.

I’m personally going to use Crossing the Whoniverse to do this task, it’s the best site I’ve found for finding Classic Who Episodes (minus the missing 108), but feel free to use your own resources as you please.

Aside from the Saturday 1st, the finale of the current series. Each day will be dedicated to each of the Seven Doctors that spanned across the 26 years of the original series run.

Sunday will be Hartnell Day.

William Hartnell

Monday will be Troughton Day.

Patrick Troughton

Tuesday is Pertwee Day.

John Pertwee

Wednesday is T. Baker Day.

Tom Baker

Thursday is Davison Day.

Peter Davison

Friday is C. Baker Day.

Colin Baker

Saturday is McCoy Day.

Sylvester McCoy

Now the key thing to note is that Classic Who doesn’t follow the 50 minute episode format that the current series does, but rather runs in Serials where 20 minute episodes form about 4-6 parts (on average). My personal plan is to do a Serial per day, but you are more than welcome to dedicate each day to a single part and watch the next the following week. In the end, this is to encourage more fans into watching Classic Who and get a more complete experience of how Doctor Who functions, adding to your experiences with the current series and future episodes in waiting.

Doctor Who doesn’t end when the current series does, so let’s start with DOCTOBER to recognise how great this television show has been before it became the product of today. Reblog and like if you wish to take part in the challenge, I encourage all Doctor Who fans to do!
